Moment of Impact

Moment of Impact (Car Accident)

An experience of rear-end collision last February 14. I was driving and while waiting to merge into a road, a Toyota Tundra bumped our car. My husband was sitting on the front seat while the twins were on their carseats at the back.

When we were hit, it was like the world suddenly stopped and then went into slow motion. I literally felt every microsecond as I saw my glasses being thrown against the windshield. Thereafter, the world has lost its sound, it noise, I could not hear anything. Then I looked at my husband who looked fine but was just staring somewhere, he was not saying anything. I guess he felt that the time also stopped. Then slowly I turned my eyes to my 17-month-old babies. The first thing I thought that I have to check is that if there were blood or broken glasses anywhere, I did not see anything. I could see Timothy was crying but I can barely hear it. Then I looked at Thomas and he was crying too.

Dizziness. When I was a child, I used to watch cartoon characters see "stars" after being hit by something. At that moment I felt that I am on that particular scene of a cartoon show. I told my husband to check the babies. He needed few seconds to do this because we was dizzy too.

I made few calls--911. I told him what happened and then she asked my if I need an ambulance. I am still busy and I do not think I made the right decision on this because I kept on telling the agent that I need the babies to be assessed. He then told me that he asked me a yes-and-no question as to whether or not I need an ambulance. I think I was still in panic then I answered, "No." The 911-agent then advised me to just go to the hospital. I called the police, he just asked me if we were blocking the traffic. Again, I answered with my panicking voice, "No." Then the police told me to just go to the police station to file for a police report.

As my husband pacifies the crying babies, I went out to talk to the driver who bumped our car. He was apologetic as I have informed him that I have my youngsters inside my car. We exchanged insurance and license details. After few minutes, we left to see a doctor.

The babies were irritable but was eating well. They were also able to have afternoon nap. Thankfully, the babies were fine. Me and my husband sustained shoulder, back and pelvis injuries. We both are having treatment sessions for it.
